Hello and Happy February!

Here is a little snip-bit of what I have been working on/brainstorming the past few weeks. Look for a full Coffee Asana video to surface on youtube.com in the next week or so!

 

I have also decided that I am going to try and simplify my life. I might be retiring this blog, but I haven’t made a decision yet.(Maybe I will find a way to transfer all of these archives to the KristinCorinneYoga blog? Or maybe I will keep it as a token of the my year in Peoria and move to Wisco?)

I have not been a consistent blogger on RunFarGranola, however I am doing a better job keeping my yoga website, KristinCorinneYoga.com update. I have decided to continue my  future blog posts on  KristinCorinneYoga.com/blog/.  You will be able to find my musings, class updates, videos, Luna pictures and other information on my yoga site. Most of my posts are about yoga in someway, shape or form 😉 Everything will be in one place. Easy to find. Simple to navigate.

Some updates from the yoga teaching front…

NEW CLASS ALERT!

In addition to my Friday 5pm Weekly Wind Down, I will start teaching a regular Wednesday 4:30pm Vinyasa yoga class at Capital Fitness–Yoga Sangha. I am starting this week 10/21. I am super excited to share a 60 minute well rounded practice bringing breath and movement together. See you on the mat 🙂

Hello Wisconsin!

Hello!

Sorry for the summertime hiatus.

We have been traveling,

Oh, and relocating, getting grounded, and starting work/school in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin.

If I said transitioning was easy, I would be lying. Packing, unpacking, getting settled, getting new licensees, finding the grocery store, starting new jobs, becoming a student again, being a 1 car (and 5.5 bike) family, getting epic-ly lost on early morning runs, finding the right yoga studio, starting to climb again, starting to teach dance again. . . it is all exciting and stressful simultaneously. However, we are loving our new home base in the hinterlands! Now we have been here for almost 6 weeks, and it does feel like home. We are getting settled into a routine, meeting new friends, and discovering new adventures. I am teaching a wonderful dance studio run by passionate people. I am working for an outreach dance company that employs undergraduate dance majors to teach dance, movement and empowerment to underprivileged girls in the Madison community. I have found a lovely yoga studio filled with open mindedness, support and knowledge. Chris loves his MBA program and has jumped in head first getting to know classmates, professors and alumni. He is already involved in multiple clubs, organizations and international trips.

Luna and I run. All the time.

I am teaching at The Yoga Sangha at Capital Fitness this fall in Madison, Wisconsin. I am trying to add classes and will be subbing as often as possible (and sometimes last minute). Keep an eye on my Facebook Page Kristin Corinne Yoga for up-to-date info!

I am on the schedule weekly on Fridays at 5pm. I will be teaching “Weekly Wind Down,” a vinyasa based practice to get you moving, grounded and chilled out before the Friday night festivities begin. I like to think of it as a yoga happy hour before the beer 😉

Happy Full Moon : Chandra Namaskar

Happy Full Moon!

It is actually a BLUE MOON this month. That means we will be having two full moons in July. The full moon in July is called the Full Buck Moon, as this is the time when bucks start growing their antlers. The second moon in a month that is typically referred to as the blue moon. It was beautiful last night. I saw it early in the evening as it was low on the horizon and honey gold colored.


I am so grateful for all the Peoria yogis who came out to class on Tuesday for my last day of teaching in Peoria before we head North! This book was open and on the alter of Heading OM, and somehow it seemed serendipitous. It is by Oriah. I hope everyone will “risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.” ❤

This morning I filmed my “Chandra Namaskar” or Moon Salutations that I have been teaching in class over the past few weeks. It is a hodgepodge of different moon salutations and moon flows that I have studied. Enjoy! They are a fun way to mix up a home practice or just stretch out under the moonbeams. “Dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes. . .”

Happy Summer : Minimalist Granola Bars

Happy Summer! Happy Father’s Day! Happy International Yoga Day!

Whatever, and however, you are celebrating this day, I hope you are having a beautiful time ❤

Because its a busy day, it will be quick post!

I wanted to share a new, favorite recipe I discovered:

5 Ingredient Minimalist Granola Bars.

Okay, lies. I added raisins to this last batch I photographed. Actually there are 6 ingredients!

Alas, in my efforts this year to “Start Simple. Stay Simple” these bars are winners.

I think they will be excellent running (or biking, or hiking) fuel as I up my mileage this summer (with Luna, of course!).

They are also a delicious, light pre & post yoga snack!

5 Ingredient Minimalist Granola Bars

Serves: 10 bars

Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed dates, pitted (deglet nour or medjool)*
  • 1/4 cup honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1/4 cup creamy salted natural peanut butter ( or almond butter)
  • 1 cup roasted almonds, loosely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats (gluten free for GF eaters)
  • optional additions: chocolate chips, dried fruit, nuts, etc.

Instructions

  1. Process dates in a food processor until small bits remain (about 1 minute). It should be dough-like or roll into a ball.
  2. Optional step: Toast your oats in a 350 degree oven for 15-ish minutes or until slightly golden brown. Otherwise, leave them raw!
  3. Place oats, almonds and dates in a bowl – set aside.
  4. Warm honey and peanut butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir and pour over oat mixture and then mix, breaking up the dates to disperse throughout.
  5. Once thoroughly mixed, transfer to an 8×8 dish or other small pan lined with plastic wrap or parchment paper so they lift out easily.
  6. Press down until uniformly flattened. Cover with parchment or plastic wrap, and let set in freezer for 15-20 minutes to harden.
  7. Remove bars from pan and chop into 10 even bars. I keep mine in the fridge/freezer to keep them from getting mushy in humidity. It also keeps them fresh for longer!

Notes:

*If your dates don’t feel sticky and moist, soak them in water for 10 minutes then drain before processing. This will ultimately help hold the bars together better.

*I can buy all these ingredients from COSTCO. Especially the dates, peanut butter and almonds! Chris loves COSTCO, thus it makes him loves these bars even more.

Chris, Luna and I will be moving to Madison, Wisconsin this August! Chris has decided to go back to school at University of Wisconsin to get his MBA (don’t worry, he is still a Buckeye first and foremost!). I am thrilled for his opportunity up north, yet it is bittersweet. Peoria started to finally feel like “home” a few months ago. We felt grounded, connected and started to become part of the community. We did our first vision board and goal setting as a couple this year in January. The ideas of travel, adventure, & moving towards home were abundant. Alas, we are looking forward to this new adventure.

Madison is a yoga town, people bike commute everywhere, there are trails & lakes, and from my internet research, no one has yet combined the forces of yoga + beer/wine/whiskey/insert idea here. AND backyard chickens are allowed in Madison. . .but that might still be a few years down the road. You will be missed, Peoria! But not forgotten 🙂 We will be around through June and into July, and even perhaps early August. Be sure to catch me at some yoga in the next month or so! Happy Almost-Summer!

It does not feel like summer in Peoria this weekend : 50s-70s, cloudy, a bit rainy and dreary.

Alas, the green and rain made for a beautiful setting at Kickapoo Creek Winery yesterday at Vinyasa at the Vineyard! Thank you to all the adventurous yogis who came out to the vineyard and supported local businesses!

Despite the icky 49 degree weather, it was perfect weather for a longish run with Luna and Chris through Glen Oak Park this morning! We met up with a group of people also training for the Steamboat Classic in a few weeks. She is up to 8 miles. I put her and Chris on the same training program. . .they are training for Steamboat 15k and (they may not know it yet) a half-marathon 🙂

Happy Belated Birthday Luna!

Last week, Luna turned 1!

We have come a long way since her puppyhood last summer.

We celebrated all week:
Early morning runs in the park (it was quiet around 6am, so we romped a bit off leash) and hill repeats at the cemetery.

Today we finally went on her Birthday Trail Run.

Attempt: 10k or 6.2 miles at Farmdale Reservoir. IMG_20150519_125020_722

We got lost, muddy, and I am not sure if we made it the whole loop. However, it was close to 6 miles so it was her longest run! She ran off the leash the whole time. She listens to my recall about 75% of the time and waits on the trail for me to catch up. That being said, during the 25% of Luna’s forest exploration this happened:

I’m confused to how she got CHUNKS of dirt in her collar . .However, in doggie years she is actually 7. When I was 7, you knew I was having a really good day if I came home from a day spent outside covered in dirt, hair tangled with leaves, smelling like pollen & grass, and ready for bed at bedtime. I think Luna had a good day.

Eagle Poem

To sky, to earth, to sun, to moon
To one whole voice that is you.

Steadily growing, and in languages

Circles of motion.
Like eagle that Sunday morning

In wind, swept our hearts clean
With sacred wings.
We see you, see ourselves and know

Luna’s First Trail Run

Yesterday, Luna went on her first real trail run.

Our mission: 4 miles of off-leash excellence.

Result: Mostly Excellence. Mostly hills. Tired dog. Success!

We have come a long way from our first run in November. She still runs with her leash in her mouth, but I can’t complain. It has been quite a journey as we ran through the ice, snow and sub-zero temperatures this winter.  We ran the same route almost everyday. So much that we have been noticed by the neighborhood. The regulars who stand on the stoop at Tartan Inn in West Peoria call her “The-Dog-That-Runs-Itself.” A nun from St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception stopped me in her car when I was being a responsible dog owner (aka picking up poop), and asked me what kind of dog Luna was. She told me they have been watching me and wondering. Then, she proceeded to leave us with a blessing. The old man down the street has stopped me, on several occasions, to recite  Rudyard Kipling’s “The Power of the Dog.” I am not sure if it was consistency in training or divine intervention from the nuns that have turned Luna into a running machine. . .Either way I am happy we are finally here!

I wore my new running dress (thanks mom!) and Luna wore her new spring coat. Her hardy winter heeler coat has been shed and strewn across our floors, furniture, clothing and anything else it can stick too. There will be hair everywhere. Forever. Thank goodness for the Furminator and Swiffer.

On the car ride to the trail, Luna was not convinced we were going somewhere fun.

However, she was all eyes, ears and running legs when she saw the trail head.

Although we have hiked this trail, I did not realize how hilly it was until I started running. Luna beat me up and down every hill. Why was I surprised? She has four legs. I have two. At one point in time I realized that walking some of the steep hills would be faster than running! She still ran.

Half way through the run, when I told her to “sit” and “wait” as she bounded ahead. Instead, she would lay down. She still had enough energy to sprint up hills and through the underbrush chasing vermin. But sitting? No, that was just too much effort.
